We are heading south to enjoy the best of Tennessee and North Carolina riding roads. Been riding down in this area alot but have not do the Blue Ridge Parkway so that is the main goal.
I had heard that route 28 from 74 to Franklin was being repaved a couple weeks back and was tore up. Does anyone have updated information on the road conditions? Is it still tore up? Should we bypass this section of 28 and do Wayah Road? Looking for any road construction tidbits.
Thanks in Advance
Friday Vonore TN to Little Switzerland NC via Deals Gap, Moonshiners 28 (The Hellbender, Mountain Meander, Waterfalls of Cullasaja), Copperhead, and Shiners Run/Rattler (Trust NC)
Saturday Little Switzerland NC to Little Switzerland NC via Roan Mountain, The Snake, US221, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Diamond Back
Sunday Little Switzerland NC to Vonore TN via Blue Ridge Parkway, Wayah Road, and Cherohala Skyway
I was on 28 earlier this week but only went about 8 miles north of home (Franklin) so I can't say if there's anything going on North of that. Regardless I would definitely do Wayah Rd. when I just need a quick fix I can be on that in no time from my house.
just got back from a week long stay in Franklin on Saturday. 28 is good all the way north. Paving work on Cherohalla Skywy. but not too bad. Wayah rd. is a mixed bag surface wise but a great ride. Hit a little chip-n-seal work between Franklin and Blood Mtn. in GA but cant remember exactly where. Somewhere around hwy. 180 near Brasstown Bald. Pkwy is good from Cherokee to Asheville. 64/28 good south to the falls & 215 and 276 both good if you choose to ride them.Enjoy!

I love Wayah rd,,,and the little grill at the midway point "Lakes end cabin rentals and grill"....
Hwy 28 (Moonshiner) is in good shape as of last week end. You must run the whole run from Deals Gap (Dragon) to Highlands, NC or you will miss the best part.
