#1 reason would be the noticeably lower planned production numbers for the 2017 model year.

Happens plenty in the car market. Plus the first '17 harleys are now 5 months old which is enough time for the early buyers to find a reason or another to bail out.

These bikes are 2 G's less then new. My opinion: Buy new you don't want someone else's problems. These bikes can be rentals that have been ridden hard and put away wet.

Demo bikes and rental bikes are not used bikes. They are rentals and demos. Which have a much higher likelihood of being abused and improperly broken-in.

When I buy a used bike you can sometimes get a feel from the seller on how he's taken care of the bike. If he does his own maintenance, has all the receipts, detailed records of the service done and shows you a spreadsheet, he's probably taken care of the bike from the beginning.

If the guy bought his garage queen because he thought it would be cool to be a "biker" and the bike has less than 100 miles on it because the bike scared him to death. It was probably babied.

If the dude is selling the bike because his last bike before this one was a Ninja liter bike and this Harley isn't fast enough then that dude probably rung the crap out of it and you should run away.

Other than the obvious, buying used is a crap shoot. The buying price should reflect that and in today's market it usually does.

A demo or rental is a completely different animal. I wouldn't touch them with a 10' poll. The selling price rarely reflects the risk. Warranty or not the risk and potential hassles aren't worth it.

I don't think anybody in this thread is jealous. I think some of us in this thread aren't stupid.

Just thought I would sound in..Harley replaced my 2 month old M8 Streetglide the day after Thanksgiving after having it 35 days and not being able to repair the problem. At that time I was told the bike was heading back to the plant as a lab rat. About 2 weeks after that I stopped in to pick up a couple things and was back by the service bay and seen my old bike sitting in the corner..starting talking to the service mgr and he said it was heading to the auction house..

This is what I suspected in the beginning. I'm NOT saying that the new bikes/engines are bad, but there have been some failures. I'm not a first model year guy and I'm definitely not a first model year used guy. Cash money says the dealer doesn't disclose all the details to the auction house. If it wasn't a shady sale, they'd sell it themselves.
