The knockoff 8690 i ordered looks like it is here today according to the shipping info. Im pretty sure it the stupid turn signal one. I'll review the quality then put it on ebay. A. $20-30 profit is fine. $100 + profit is finer
I'm really interested to see how this goes. I want to pick up a new headlight, but I was thinking about picking up the daymaker from the dealership.
Please dont buy a hd daymaker. Total waste of money. If you eant to spend in the $300-400 range and get quality. Look at the cd 5.75" trubeam or the jw speaker 8690 [M]

I was looking at the $60 light, but I didn't know how reliable they'd be.
Running a cheaper sealed is a gamble, especially if you ride at night a lot. Folks are happy with this guy though. If i were swing in that range, id go with it.
Truth be told, people are paying $150 for the same light and think its better because they paid more. There are entire thread devoted to extolling there same lights marked ip under another name. That's kind of why this thread got started.
I have the JW8690A, Was very impressed with the function. My only bitch was the light output color was more like a 4000K warm white than a 6000-6500K white light of the Daymaker or Truck Light and looked wrong with the white light of the LED spots and the yellow/orange of the running lights. Too much going on color wise. JMO
I contacted JW Speaker but no response, I'm guessing that this 4000K color is normal and what they are referring to when they refer to "comfort light" in the description.

The tone is why i prefer the 8690a over the trubeam/vortex, even though the trubeam/vortex smashes the 8690a/m in terms of pure output. The 8690 is not even on the save level in that arena.
the 8690a/m win out with smooth light and blended transition in the output patterns while trubeam/vortex just goes Rambo on light.
Do you have contacts (or personal experience) with the trubeam? Only reason I ask is that lumen ratings on LED fixtures are like wattage ratings on amplifiers. Take them with a grain of salt. The color and beam pattern significantly alter the perceived brightness. Companies sometimes overdrive the diodes to achieve bloated ratings on paper. There are all kind of marketing, measuring, and statistical trickery used...in addition to flat out lies.
