Thumbs up 2006 New Softail FXSTI need opinions

Everyone,

Just purchased a new 2006 FXSTI Softail Standard. It is doing the bucking and surging
a bit at part throttle cruising. I know they are always lean and I am going to add a tuner.

I wanted to see if you guys thought the Power Vision, SERT, or the Thundermax would be the best option?
At this point, I am adding a hf air filter, Freedom Performance Declaration pipes. I also want the ability to tune
down the road. I am leaning toward the Power Vision, but the Thundermax is appealing as well.

It has been 8 years since I bought a SERT, which one would I need to buy of I go that route?

Thanks all!

I don't think your 06 has O2 sensors, so that pretty much rules out the Power Vision...unless you want to add O2 sensors, or a wideband kit.

I had a SERT on my 05 Deluxe. It was OK for bolt on HD parts (and similar), but relies on canned maps developed for HD parts only. There is no support and it doesn't work well with aftermarket parts. It's probably no longer available for your 06 anyway. The newer versions require O2 sensors. I ended up going to a Power Vision with the Wideband O2 sensor kit to support my aftermarket cams and pipe.

I believe the Thundermax comes with O2 sensors, so It would probably be your best option.

A 2005 ECM and up can handle 02 sensors.

Wire them up and get a favorite tuning device.

How to wire them up is in the back pages of the TTS Tuning manual along with part numbers. (TTS = SERT)

Learn something new every day. I didn't know I did not have O2 sensors on an FI bike. I haven't even looked.

Thanks for the information,

I have an 06 FXSTDI. NO O2 sensors. You say that it's 'bucking and surging' at part throttle cruising? Check your fuel line inside the tank. Those are the exact symptoms that I had on mine when that fuel line had a little hole in it. It got progressively worse until it was 'sneezing' out of the air cleaner and I couldn't get the bike over 45mph. The line rubs on a weld inside the tank, wears a hole in the line, and you lose pressure to the fuel injectors.

Ignore the line with the bolt in it. I found it laying on top of the engine when I took the tank off to fix the fuel line. No idea where it came from, I bought the bike new and had never had the tank off before.
