I wonder if my 2012 Switchback would start and run if I stripped it of all the Chinese parts? BTW I just bought and installed a Custom Dynamics 7" headlight that is claimed to be Merkan made, I doubt it is 100% Merkn made.

"The new 150,000 square feet Vision X Manufacturing Factory, located in Seoul, South Korea, features the most advanced manufacturing and testing equipment available.

The new facility manufacturers and ships products to Vision X partners all throughout the world on a daily basis."

Thanks for all the testing and posting you have done on this one. I just have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. Which light is it that you tested?
2. Does this one have the adaptive feature and does it work?
3. Is the bright beam as concentrated as the low?
4. Is this a direct bolt on?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is the adaptive light. Unfortunately, I can't confirm proper operation of the cornering LEDs at this time. They fire up in sequence during "boot up" and do seem to illuminate as I tilt the fixture in my hand but it does seem a bit erratic. I don't know how it will behave on a bike where the g-forces are different than hand-held.

I tested the adaptive light the Cvaria linked to from Aliexpress. It's a 7" light so unless you have a 7" bucket, no, it won't be drop-in. Even if you DO have a 7" bucket, it's possible that the mounting ring may need changed or modified. The light dropped into my Miata bucket perfectly without modification, but the Metric-style bucket I got from Dime City required some modification because the heatsink on the back of the light is wider at the base than a traditional sealed beam. I just had to grind away some metal from the inside diameter of the mounting ring to clear the heat sink.

Here is the high vs low:

The way this light works the low beam LEDS are on all the time and when switched to high the three high beam LEDs also come on. So, in high beam, every non-cornering LED is lit. You can see the flat horizontal pattern produced by the low beam is still present when the high beam is turned on. It just adds the circular spot above.

The camera exposures were slightly different for these two pics. The brightness seems dimmer for the high beam, but that's due to the camera. In real life, the high beam is a fair bit brighter than the low, as it should be.

Perfect, thanks for the write up and all the effort you put into this.

This plant doesn't appear to have "suicide nets" around it, like some of the Chinese tech factories... So that's something.

What the heck....I bought one.

We'll see...it can't be worse than stock and maybe even better than the one I have now.
