Question for you: Would similar years sporties use the same size front and rear fenders? Would say a XL1200C fender fit a XL883?
The reason I ask is I bought a new tank off ebay for my '04 XL883 that's a different color and I'm considering replacing my fenders to match rather than repaint mine (I'm terrible at painting). So I'm curious what the fitment across different models of the same year would be.
Here's the tank I got, not a ding or a scratch on it, I'm pretty pumped:
I thought about maybe leaving the fenders black, but that might look weird.
The answer is yes. You can verify part numbers across models on-line here. While painted parts are often model-specific, the unpainted part number will be common across most models.

Ah yes, looks like the same part number for my XL883 as a XL1200C. Thanks for your help grbrown. If I don't like the look of that tank with my black fenders I might look for some silver fenders. Or try painting again...
I suspect that tank will look just fine with black fenders. It hardly looks as if it's used or been on a bike! What year is it?
I believe this is an 04 roadster tank, thing is minty fresh! Looks a heck of a lot better than my tank for both condition and style. My xl883 has that terrible Monster Energy Drink "sportster" script on it, ha!
Any narrow-glide, 39mm fork fender, will fit. Sportsters, Super Glides, Low Riders, etc. The range of years and models, for a front fender, is very large. At the very least, 1999 to 2012. I'm too lazy to figure out the exact years, but you get my drift, I'm sure.
Rear fender, is about any Sportster from 2004-up, except 2007-2009. '07 -'09 had the ECM in the rear fender. PITA.
Wanna sell that Monster-script tank? Matches my paint.
