radiator on 78 1/2. why?
It's had all the normal issues i was told they would ,...
But I was getting ready to order new oil and fuel lines, so i took a video of me taking the lines off.
So a day later I was looking at the oil schematic for it and something didn't seem right , so i finally realized that because it has a radiator on it.
Why would this have been done.
He did put a s&s shorty E carb on it and also what appears to be just s&s heads, I believe the lower is still amf.
I don't even know what size engine is on it. It was rebuild about 10 years ago. 1200 original.
And I know many are going to say electronic over points, but when I opened it up I din't see any kind of electronic box in there.

But did you find a set of points & a condenser in there?
when you find the timing plug and remove it ( center top of engine cases left side ) aftermarket flywheels always have a series of numbers and letters that tell the tail of what size motor you have
rotate the engine around and write down what you find post up
with that being said my uncle did leave a Harley mechanics manual with it and it is for 78 1/2 to i believe 80 something I forget.
thats when i go a little stumped because I took the Video I shot off me taking off the oil lines not thinking any thing of it and watched it. Then I had a couple guys over in the garage drinking a few and I just happened to start looking at the oil schematic. first thing I noticed was the both diagrams one was I believe 80 or 81 and earlier and the other was obviously older. neither diagram had a oil radiator / cooler . Just oil pump, oil tank and filter, air vent, and primary.
Also in the diagram they had hoses going to inlets on the oil pump that mine didn't, and I'm not at home right now to look at it but two things I remember where definitely different between the two is one of the top inlets on my oil pump went into a T hook up. One going to oil can and other going to primary. The other was one of the hoses going to the oil tank was coming from the oil cooler.
Now I have read on this forum that a lot of guys went to electrical timing instead of points. So I opened up the case and it appears to me to be a points set up. So then I also read that some guys hated the electrical after they got it and switched back to points.
Sorry for the long rant, But last but not least as far as some off the inlets on mine not having hoses hook up, I have also read that with time and multiple upgrades u did not need certain inlets on the oil pump to have a hose. Something to do with not needing as much oil I believe in the crank case.
And last my uncle could have just been a ****ing retard and hooked it up wrong, slightly joking on that one.
Here are just a few pics thru the years, I got it purple and started messing around with a few black an red combos. But ultimately, it's getting a springer front end, and rear fender is being chopped a little shooter.
It comes stock with a 32 degree rake already. I'm new to the springer set up. Any good suggestions on length and rake let me know.
Not trying to get to crazy with it though.
Thanks for any help u can provide, I do have my mechanic coming over tonight to look and see if it is points or electric.
