I know this topic has been covered alot! And ive been looking at posts. Interesting to see the polls on oil and how mobil1 is the lead in the polls from past years.
well i had my 1000 mile service done a while back on my 2017 street bob. I had hd syn oil put in. The guy had told me since its still new im going to have to change it again at 2000 miles. Well im at 3000 miles and im going to finally have time to do it.
i dont want to go to the dealership. I plan on going there as little as possible and doing my own work. I want to put in different oil for trans, prim, and engine. I keep seeing redline and mobile1 as the runner ups so im going to prob do a combo of those or one of them. Are these oils easily accessible in local areas? Like maybe walmart, auto zone, home depot? Weekends coming and i do not have time to order online. Although online links to order oil would be much much appreciated! Recommendations of places i can go pick them up. Pictures of oil containers would help to. Im a visual kinda guy lol.
I'm sure it varies by location but I can get the usual suspects at the local AutoZone. I know they have the Mobil 1 V-twin and I've seen some Redline products but not sure exactly which. I wouldn't rule out Wal-Mart or the other auto parts stores either.
Im going to have to go looking around. I was thinking autozone was my best bet. I heard they have oil filters for motorcycles too. Have you seen those?
My 1000mi change I went with the Hd syn3 oil in all three holes... at the 4000mi mark I swapped to Lucas 20W-50 motorcycle oil in the engine and primary and 75W-90 gear lube in the transmission. Now a few oil changes later I've swapped to AMSOIL 20W-50 motorcycle oil in the engine and primary and AMSOIL 75-90 gear lube in the transmission. And all with a Wix filter. As a preferred customer I get the AMSOIL cheaper than any motorcycle oil, and just about any synthetic oil that I can buy in town. so I order it in along with all the oil for my other vehicles and oil needs.
for me I've stuck with 3000mi changes on engine and primary oils and 6000mi changes on the transmission... so every other oil change. I buy a stash of Wix filters for ~$6 a piece from Rock auto and bought a giant pack of drain plug O rings on eBay for dirt cheap.

most any auto parts store will have the motorcycle oil in a small section and they'll have the correct filter if you know what part number you're looking for, since they have a hard time looking up Harley/ motorcycle parts.
I've just started giving the parts grabber behind the counter a number to go get when if I have to buy something same day, otherwise order online IMO. seems like oil filters are half price or less on Rockauto.
Wix black oil filter- 57148
and the chrome is 57348
I pick up the Valvoline VR1 SAE 50 at the local NAPA store; the Spectro Primary Chaincase Oil and the Spectro 75W-140 6-Speed transmission fluid I get on eBay for much less than the local dealership has it for. I use a permanent oil filter so that's a remove, clean, and mount back on the relocation...
filters.... k&n, wix, etc. Autoparts store again. Or search online they apppear on amazon cheap a lot. I just bought 10 for 6 bucks each with free shipping.
