I think this is the thread that was really helpful to me, unfortunately I can't see the pictures anymore. But once I slid the fork tubes down so the top of the tubes we're just above that lower bracket on the trees, I was able to take the cap off, pull the springs out and put the new ones in with spacers. I didn't pull the tubes completely out. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softail-models/621224-progressive-drop-in-kit-install-step-by-step.html

So I was able to find a couple photos of when I did mine. The first one is the bike stripped down. After the first photo, all you do is loosen the fork clamps on the lower section there, take the fork caps off that are on top of the tree, they are not under pressurep ress start jacking up the bike. As you jack up the bike, the fork tubes will slide down. You may have to giggle them a little. Then once the top of your fork tubes get down to that lower section, take off the caps that are holding the springs in, which will be under a little pressure, and slide out the springs.

I understand you want info about lowering the front forks, I have not done that but I have installed an air ride system that allows me to adjust the ride height and preload for different riding situations. Well worth the cost for better ride all around and it was super easy.

Take a look at my mods page.

I don't plan on lowering the front but I do plan on changing to black lowers an black cow bells eventually. I'll probably throw the progressive springs in then. Figure I'll just wait an do it all at once.

That was exactly my plan while I still consider lowering front 1-1.5” to keep geometry correct. I thought on the back I will go 1.5” if I will pull a trigger on this project.
