Assume you mean that you want to keep the stock pushrods? How many miles on the bike now? Do you have a tuner? As a cam change requires such.

I got a 16 SG. I decided to stay away from cams for now. The money to power gain ratio wasn't there for me at the moment. Here is my dyno graph that was recently done with my set up. Just A/C, header pipes, slip ons and a good tune.

Cycle ramma 570s seem to be the current hot drop in cam for 103s replacing Andrews 57s. Could not go wrong with either but each will need a proper tune!

Just to be more specific, I, too, was looking to change cams and wondered if that cost was worth it. From the research I was seeing, the power gains of a cam that was still safe for stock set up wasn't about 8 hp 8 tq gain, maybe.... If I wanted more, then more money would have to be put into the lifters, rockers, pushrods, and the cam itself. I decided that I would save that money and put it elsewhere on the bike.

Good luck with your decision. It is not an easy one at all.

I would agree with White Glide, head pipe, open up the intake, a good tuner, mufflers.

Did my wife’s 16 SGS last November, shouldn’t have waited!
You will be amazed at how good these Rushmore’s run without throwing cams at them!

agree based off research cam isn’t worth the money unless you install yourself. Then it’s only like 400 dollars or so.

Really is sad how little HP these make and tq and that’s after being tuned. Compared to other v twins

i have a 2015 sg with just slip ons

Have to disagree with those dissuading you against a cam upgrade. It’s worth it, but, you should really change your lifters and go to adjustable pushrods.

It’s not just the fact that you could gain 10-13hp and 7-10lbs. of tq. It’s the fact that these cams start at 100lbs. of tq. and carry out at least that, to redline. And that’s with a 2-1-2 exhaust set up. Add a good 2-1, and you’d likely be higher.

Say what you want about money to power gain ratio, but after upgrading cams. lifters, pushrods and a tune, my bike is a lot more fun to ride than it was before the upgrades.
