Will powder coated spark plug covers withstand the heat from heads?
As asked in the subject. Like the look of it but not sure if there is not too hot for finish. I have them in chrome now but would like to shoot them black.
It is my understanding that powder coated parts should not be subjected to temperatures above around 350°F. It is possible the cylinders can approach that temperature, especially the rear cylinder.
To be safe, use high temperature powder for powder coating.
The heads themselves are powder coated so as long as you use a quality high temp powder there's no problem.
Although if they're painted black I think they'd look like my heads that have no covers at all, so I'm not sure I'd bother. If the finish doesn't match Harley's wrinkle, it could look a little funky...
