I’m not saying it can’t happen, but if you’re in an front end collision forceful enough to wrap your crash bar around the motor, you’re ejected from the bike on impact. I’m calling shenanigans.

i dropped a road king at a gas station when I was first learning- not a scratch thanks to the engine guard and saddlebag rails.

i also had a car open it’s door while I was passing at about 50 mph and it hit the engine guard. The guard bent maybe half an inch and nearly took the dude’s door off.

In short....unless you’re buying some Chinese hollow soda can aluminum crash bar, it’s not going to fold. Any HD brand or one of the big names like Bung King, Kruesi, Cobra or anything American from the JP catalog, you’ll be fine.

You may be ejected from the bike, Very likely. Now think about the energy absorbed by your "super strong" engine guard bars. One side may fold like paper and come back to your leg. Think about your leg wedged via the bar as you go sailing over the handle bars. Don't know if you'd want to wear a helmet at this point as your leg shears. (If the level of energy is high enough.)

Say, like a rider going 60mph and a brain dead driver making a left turn into the bike rider. In a 6,000 pound high walled SUV? Ever heard the term "SMIDSY?"

Won't comment about the "quality" of the piping, but can tell you it can happen, regardless of country of origin. Just hope it doesn't happen to you. Then we can certainly call "shenanigans."

My 2016 fxdb came with curved ones like on the previous page. The previous owner also put bolt on fold down pegs which stick too far out.
I'm going to be buying the mustache style.

No kidding? So I asked you this;

Got a list?
No answer?
Again,, classic myth. Could it happen? Yes. Does it? Sometimes.
Of course,, in a mythical kind of way.
About the time a guy get's in a frontal impact that does harm a leg,, a crash bar isn't going to be a make or break for the leg damage.
If there is anyone here that thinks every time we ride isn't a roll of the dice when it come to injuries sustained in "impact" situations,,
Well, then they have a mythical view of riding,, period.

so Norty? got a list? (at least any longer then mine?)

lol why the personal attack? Sure it could happen, but you guys are acting like having an engine guard is more harm than good.

using my own experience, I hit the edge of a car door at 50 mph and the guard moved an inch. So double the speed/velocity to 100mph so the thing would move 2 inches?

And yes, if a 6,000 SUV tboned you I’m sure your bent engine guard would be the least of your worries.

A nice blanket statement would be that engine guards are a good safety feature in minor/moderate collisions. I think we can agree.

Sorry, it wasn't meant to come off as a personal attack. please accept my apology. I was just sharing a little personal experience with engine guard bars. Thank you for not referring to them as "crash bars."

And yes, 100mph does have exactly double the energy as 50mph...so, I guess it would only move 2 inches...

Math...physics...hard. I guess it’s 4 times the energy...so 4 inches? Still having a hard time with this theory haha. Call me stupid, I just can’t see the argument that more people’s legs get clamped than legs saved per accident/incident that occurs.

PS- I like the Kreusi bar the best, but it’s too rich for my blood.

Do u lose any clearance since they stick out so far? Hate to have these drag during a hairpin turn before my pegs at mach 3.

most mount at the highway peg location, which is higher up than your foot pegs. Your foot pegs will scrape before the engine guard.

I got engine guards because very occasionally I've dropped a bike while almost stationary, due to inclines, gravel, distraction, or tiredness. I like the HD ones, except for the u-bolt clamps at the bottom.
