You might check out the 2 pipe plugs on the front of the oil filter housing. I had one seeping when I first got the bike. Put a little thread tape on it a snugged it down.

Smile leaking crankcase

Would this be in any way similar to a "porous crankcase'
I have a 2008 Anniversary RG. At the 5k service I asked the tech to check the oil filter as i notices a thin film of oil leaking from somewhere. Turns out the tech took some pictures, sent them to the moco and advised me that i had a porous crankcase. Bottom line they gave me a complete new motor. Was hoping to get a rebuild but the labour was way too much compared to the new motor. Can't complain though they did right by it.

Good luck

Mike

I was thinkn the same thing at first. After some thought I believe that he is lookin for something for being inconvenianced. They have his money and he has no bike for the time being. He bought a new scoot and was not expecting it to be in the shop for a major issue. They should at least give him a demo until the work is done. I have the understanding some Steelerships have demos available. That is the least they should do.
Good luck and keep us posted on the repaire.

I had a similar warranty job with my '08 Road Glide. At 400 miles on the odometer, my dealer discovered porous cases and sprung into action. The GM at my dealer outlined my options: 1) rebuild the motor under warranty w/ new cases, 2) complete new motor from the dealer/moco, or 3) turn the bike in and choose another. A private conversation with the service manager, whom I had learned was very trustworthy in the way he dealt with routine service on my previous bike, and his recommendation was that I let him rebuild the engine. His comment: "HD assembles engines well, and only rarely makes a mistake, but I have the best engine builder in the city on staff and there is a difference in assembling an engine and building an engine. If it was me, I would take advantage of the opportunity to build an engine." I went with his recommendation. Of course, moco was more than pleased to send new cases with my original VIN stamped on them. Two days later the cases arrived, and three more days to rebuild the engine from the ground up. Installed the 103" kit while we had it torn down. Bottom line is that my '08 now has 28k miles on her and she has run perfectly. I'm really pleased with what we did. But the key is the dealer. Kudos again to Earl Small's HD in Marietta, GA - they have earned a customer for life. I wouldn't even consider purchasing a bike, or having one serviced, at any other dealer.
