brought my 2009 ultra in for oil leak and recieved a call crank case is cracked
PAT RODERS HD is going to replace case JOHN IN SERVICE IS GREAT
AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THEM
but really a bike with 2000 miles needs a new case
called hd customer service to see if they where going to do anything
extra for me but that was a waste of time ???????????????
Where was it leaking at? I've had a slight leak near the oil filter. Changed out the filter with the 1000 mile service but I still see spots of oil on my timing cover.

sounds like your cylinder base gasket might be leaking. There is an oring on the spigot to case joint. It might have gotten nicked during instalation. have the dealer check it out. It will be covered under warranty.

7125, bummer deal on the cracked crankcase.
(sorry to go off on a tangent, but...Dr_Scoot...Do you have the HD Premium Oil Cooler? Take a really close look at the area on the right side, just above the oil filter where the send/receive lines connect to the housing. Is there any oil leaking from there?
There is a seal that fits between the oil cooler send/receive unit and the oil-filter connection point and I'm dealing with a small leak at that junction point right now. May be a defect in the manufacturing; my mechanic is calling H-D to submit a Engineering Review Request for a possible TSB to fix the issue.)
I talked to one of the service guys at the local stealer and he told me they have about 15 09 touring bikes in stock with a leak at the base of the rear cylinder on the left side of the bike. It looks like something HD warranty might need to take a look at doing a recall on...
OK just so I understand, they are going to fix your bike under warrenty at no cost to you and you want them to do more? I'm not judging one way or the other, just trying to understand your point.
i think since it has low miles on it he was hoping for a new complete engine. they should in my opinion .to tear that puppy down and see why it cracked,to see if possibly other bikes down the road with the same thing or just a fluke.. just my perspective on it

Well I hope you don't have to wait anywhere near as long as I had to when HD agreed that my replacement engine cases with correct VIN (due to spun inner cam bearing) would be covered under the extended warranty. I waited forever for the factory to send the cases to the dealer so I could pick them up and get the bike back up and running again. Good luck, hopefully yours will be a lot faster.
