Windows Media Player no longer downloads CD info - any good alternatives?
Howdy all,
For many years I've used Windows Media Player (recently called the Legacy version) to rip my CDs to my PC. It's worked beautifully and is drop dead simple. I don't really download music, I just buy CDs when I feel like it, so this has been my go to method of managing my music. Also the playlists I create in WMP show up and play properly on my GTS head unit. Just recently Microsoft disabled the ability of WMP to download CD info (because, well, it's just a Microsoft thing to do).
Does anyone know of any other software that will rip CDs (at any preferred bitrate) and import track and album art? It's really annoying that Microsoft did this but given all the trouble they've caused us a work these past few years it doesn't surprise me.
Got some security warnings when I tried to go to the audio grabber site so I backed away. Looking at some other utilities but not seeing any as simple as WMP yet.
I have Audio Grabber ... Never got a warning ... Times have changed
Could just be an Internet fluke. Found an app called fre:ac that ripped the discs OK, just didn't do it as neatly as WMP did. I can work with it though. It didn't import album art but MP3 Tag allowed me to modify that, although I had to download the album cover manually.
When I get some more time I'll try to double check the Audio Grabber site. I like things to be simple whenever possible.
First world problems have been eatin me up lately...
Thanks for the tip Larry I think my firewall was just having a bad day. I got a copy of Audio Grabber and will give it a try. Do you recall if it snatches album artwork as well?
Right now I don't recall ... I got Audio Grabber when my son had a couple of CD's to rip ... I have a SIGNIFICANT mp3 collection on my desktop ... Over 6,000 complete CD's ...I haven't been as active over the last few years. :<
Yeah the AI bots said it would rip CDs, but when I tried it wouldn't do it. In all my dealings with AI I have come to the conclusion that it is about as useful at **** on a bull hog.
