Wondering if anyone has a close up picture of how the spring clips on the heritage windshield work. My deluxe has the nostalgic shield and the spring clips are on the outsides of the bracket. They latch onto a little nub sticking out of the end of the mounting bolt. I saw a picture of a heritage shield, and it looks like the spring clips are on the inside of the brackets instead. I'm wondering what they actually clip on to. I'm wanting to replace my rusting windshield hardware with stainless hardware, but can't figure out how my shield will latch without the nub on the end of the screw. If I can ditch this hardware by going over to a heritage T-style shield, I may just do that. Can someone post a pic and help me out?
Unfortunately it does not. That is the instruction sheet for the FX softail. I've seen the same sheet for the heritage shield but it doesn't actually show any images of the shield installed.
The spring sits inboard of the support brackets mounted on the fork (that the windshield mounts to). The spring clips over the upper bolt that holds this bracket on.
That is exactly the shield I am talking about. What I'm wondering is if those spring clips will work with the deluxe light bar. From what I've been able to find it looks like the heritage light bar bracket is basically just flat stock on either side of the fork. The deluxe bracket is thicker at the top and kind of tapers down towards the bottom. Trying to figure out of the spring clip will still grab on even with the thicker light bar bracket. Perhaps you could grab a couple more close up pics of that spring clip in action when you have a chance? A shot from the drivers seat looking down on it would be perfect I think.
You are the man. That is exactly the information that I needed. The deluxe light bar is closed on the top. It almost hides the bolt completely. That clip in your pic would have nothing to grab onto on the deluxe. If it was holding the bolt itself, it might have worked. Thanks for your help brother, much appreciated.
You won't have any problems as long as you buy the shield that is specifically for the deluxe with the light bar. The heritage light bar is different, so the heritage shield is different, and they are not interchangeable.
