Heritage windshield retaining spring clip
My plan, which has not been implemented yet is to remount the stock springs from the Heritage is such a way as to work with the Deluxe's bolt head nubbin arrangement. Looks like I'll have to drill a couple holes, including a slotted hole for the anchor end of the spring to fit into.
I've ridden the bike a couple times with the Heritage windshield on, and just used artfully crafted "bailing wire" to secure the top mount. I only use it when my lady is riding on the back. My Nostalgia windshield is cut down to "fly screen" size. I hate the big billboard windshield, but she insists on it.
that was on my 2006 Softtail Delux FLSTNI. The Windsplitter has its retaining springs and clips on the inside of the mounting brackets, where they can't
engage the ***** on the ends of the upper mounting bolts which are on the outside of the brackets. The Delux light bar is closed at the top, leaving no place
whatever to engage the spring clip. I've read Mike Lawless' suggested modification regarding drilling holes, and have to say that I'm not that adventurous.
I've talked to some folks at a Harley shop and they suggest that I shouldn't be concerned that the clips serve no function with the Delux. If the grommets are
in good condition (mine are, and new ones came with the windshield), the mounting bolts are cranked down to the recommended torque, and the wind is
always coming from the front (don't load the bike backwards on an open trailer) to push the windscreen toward the mounting brackets, it shouldn't ever go anywhere
until I hit a brick wall.
When I researched the Windsplitter on Harley's site, they gave only one stock number for it, and claimed that it fit a broad variety of Softtails, including the
Delux. Its clear however, that they need to modify this windshield for use on Delux models, or correct their advertising.
