I just got a set of skirt blowers. I removed my old pipes, went to put these in and realized the ends are not tapered like exhausts I've done before. instead it gets larger, almost the size of the gasket. it doesn't slide into the port, but sort of rests on it. has anybody dealt with this? first harley in quite a few years but Ive never seen pipes that didn't slide into the ports.
Install gaskets into exhaust ports on the heads, then stab your exhaust headers into the ports. The exhaust gaskets are not supposed to fit around the exhaust headers.
I've encountered this problem a few times. Easy Fix. Test fit the header pipes (Without Gaskets) to verify that they will seat properly into the exhaust ports. If they do, you'll have to use Flat exhaust gaskets instead of the standard cone shaped gaskets.
You can easily find Flat exhaust gaskets through JP Cycles and I believe that Harley also sells them in their Scream'in Eagle line.
i'll try. i tried to fit the pipe into the head without a gasket and it wouldn't even go in then.
edit... the pipes DO fit in the ports but the fit is very tight - almost paper thin gasket area. there's no way in hell the conical gaskets will work. are the screaming eagle gaskets that much thinner?
