OK Guys so I FINALLY received the new Hardware this evening (after 2 weeks ordered from Surdyke HD) and so of course I had to go out and do a Mock install so I was relieved to see that the new Hardware was the correct ones with the spacers, however I now have a new issue. I have some Mini Apes (10") Handlebars and the Fairing (inner speaker) hits the handlebars where they are currently mounted. I tried to move the bars back some (towards me) but they are at a ridiculous angle back - definitely not comfortable for me. So my new question is do you guys know if reckless has a different steel mount for people running Apes? I seem to need about an 1" of additional space from the mounting holes on the fairing to the slot that goes in the new hardware if that makes sense. I measured the bracket and its currently 3.5" on the top section and I would need the new bracket to be approximately 4.5-4.75 in order to sit back enough away from the handlebars. Anyone else have this issue?

I also have pics if that helps paint the picture better - no pun intended.

I just wanna mount this damn fairing and it seems that everything that can go wrong will and has.

I ran into this same issue when I put apes on my 06 Heritage. Hitting just to the inside of the lower speaker. The way these bars are made there's no way to adjust them that'll move em away from the fairing. I'll be watching to see how this is resolved.

I knew I wasn't the only one out there with this issues but I also know that there are others out there that have apes and are running the fairing. I'm hoping one of them will chime in soon. I think one way to get this issue resolved is to give the brackets to someone who has a CnC machine and can cut me the brackets with the additional space needed in the bracket to push the fairing forward away from the bars. But before I contact reckless or look for someone with a CnC. I am hoping someone here could help.

Mine looks like it needs to come up an inch and forward a half inch. Mostly due to the style bars I'm running. Been thinking about cutting a new bracket as well. I really don't wanna drill extra holes in the fairing.

Had/have same issue. The fixes I have done

1st time I tries la chopper bagger apes which have the bend real lo so not really noticeable when fairing was off. But were wide and I wasn't totally happy with look when fairing was off

2nd try was pull back risers with buffalo apes again did not like look when fairing was off.

Current set up which is what I wanted to do 1st but didn't have funds was gangster apes. I still need to rock them towards me when the fairing is on but not uncomfortable. You'll need to decide if you will have it on a lot or just on occasion. If you plan on keeping it on all the time get bagger apes (have a bend half way up).

I have a woodys fairing on mine and had discussed in depth with him about the angle of the fairing. Short story is be careful on how much you change the angle because it will have an effect on handling. Have to remember touring bikes have a completely different front end.

Edit: chrome bars are la chopper and black ones are gangster apes having a hard time on iPad getting them where I want.

Thanks 06 flstfise for your assistance.

I just got off the phone with Reckless and confirmed that they "DO NOT" have a different mounting bracket for us Ape Bar owners. So I guess we are on our own now.

Well considering that the mounting brackets are approximately 1/8" thick - it will not be easy to cut at home without the proper tools but I also dont think it will be entirely impossible either.

anyone else out there have some info on this subject?

Did Reckless offer any insight at all. Seems as if they weren't much help at all if your still looking for answers.

I am not sure on the mounting bracket (mine mounts like the detachable windshield did) but when I did mine I did it with Glenn the owner of woodys fairings and we just elongated the holes on the fairing. I know when I had my 10in apes they caught just the inside of the speaker and it did cross my mind to file down/cut the inner for the bars. But like I said I went with different bars that were wider. If you want to pm me your info I can send you a bunch of pics or give a call. It has taken me a few years but I think I have mine set how I want after lots of trial and error and money

NOPE - well all she said was that they have heard of this issue before and that all I needed to do was pullback my bars. I told her that at the point of where the fairing is properly mounted my bars are so far back it's not only uncomfortable but its not safe. So you are correct - still looking for answers as I have a fairing that I can't mount unless I either take 06 flstfise's advice and install some risers and/or switch handlebars or create my own brackets. The latter of which seems to be the most cheapest but might also be the most challenging. FML!!!!!

OHHHHH 06 flstfise - you have PM - Thanks Bro!
