Hi all, I just bought an 05 Deluxe. It has the little locking saddlebags, that while they look real nice, don't hold much of anything, not even a helmet. I just wondered what some ofyou have done for carrying stuff. Did you buy aftermarket bags, accessory bags, wear a backpack? It would be nice just to be able to carry a few things that might come in handy, liketools? thanks for any insight you have to offer. rg.
When I bought my Deluxe it had the HD Deluxe bags on it. After my first long weekend ride, I knew right away that I had to get rid of them because I couldn't carry much. They look nice, but they only have about 950 cubic inches of storage space. I bought some custom classic saddlebags with EZBrackets and I now have 1900 cubic inches, and I think they also look better.
Thanks for the feed back guys. I just hate to buy new bags since those suckers list for 750 bucks, but that's probably what I will end up doing eventually. I don't have a sissy bar on, and I'm not sure I want one, but that would be another option.
I think the Deluxe looks better without all the bulky bags on them. But if you must, there's lots of options for storage, I have the deluxe saddlebags with bubbas quick release system. For The looks department the Deluxe bags look far better than the bigger bags at the cost for space. For longer overnighters, I use the T-bags (route66). Everyday use; all the bags are off. If I have to be hauling extra stuff around; I'm in my cage. As far as securing the helmet Harley sells a lock to secure it to the frame. I also use the chrome tool box Harley sells for the minimal tools and registration I carry. If cost is a issue get yourself a backpack or if your a guy a man purse, you bought yourself a Harley, be prepared to spend some money. My two cents.....
I have the Deluxe bags with Bubbas quick release kit. If I need more space I have the Kuryakyn Grand Tour bag that I can use on the luggage rack or passenger pillion. When on the pillion, it doubles as a backrest. For around town, the bags come off and so does the shield.
