I'm looking to install the HD alarm and siren and am wondering how long will it take to kill the battery? I have to leave the harley in a parking garage this winter, so trickle charger isn't an option, and alarm is a must.
instead of buying harleys, i installed my own with a siren from radio shack. was really easy. as for battery life. it would just make it thru the winter barely. talking 3-4 months.
option - pick up another battery, charge it in your house and switch it out every couple weeks.
I installed the H-D security and siren module and have left mine for 6 weeks without a battery tender on it and it started right up - I have no idea how long it could have gone.
There is also a small 9v NiCad battery inside the siren, and it could be damaged if the main battery was totally discharged for some time or disconnected.
Any chance that you could use one of those solar panel battery tenders?
A lithium battery would only last longer if it was a higher Amp/Hour rating, but you're unlikely to find one with a much higher rating.
There is a long term storage mode to it. At least on my 03. I haven't used it but what I've read in the service manual is that it's design expressly for what you are trying to do.
To expand on storage mode, all alarm functions are disabled and the receiver is shut down and will not respond to the key fob. The vehicle is immobilized because the starter motor and ignition module/ECM controllers are disabled.
Basically, the alarm system disables the bike till woken up from storage mode. I don't think it will sound any alarm.
