My siren used to chirp 2 times when I turned the ignition off. Now it chirps 3 times, which the service manual tells me the internal battery may be dying or dead.
Anyone know how easy it is to replace the battery in the HD Smart Siren?
I know the siren is located beind the ECM, and how to get to it. But, do I have to run through any set-up procedure once the siren battery is replaced?
here's the instructions for the replacement battery kit from hd. according to them, no, you don't have to go through another setup procedure, but they do caution that the ni-mh battery may have to go through a couple of charging cycles before your siren works properly.

I am glad i found this post, recently my siren did the same where it sounded 3 times and then no siren at all but only the lights flash. I wanted to check if we know what is the mah value of the Harley replacement battery and can we use any other 9v battery like maybe a higher mah li-on battery ?
On amazon I am getting the below 2 options
1.ENVIEŽ (9v Infinite) Ni-Mh 300mAh Capacity Ready to Use Rechargeable Battery
2.ENVIEŽ Infinite 9V 800 maH Li-ion Rechargeable Battery ERB 9V MU
I know this is an old thread, but beings it got life breathed back into it........
Started thinking about my '14 SGS battery and looked on the HD website. $55 for that sucker!!!??? Surely there's an aftermarket replacement, right? I mean, the OEM HAS lasted 8 years, but it's going to quit sooner than later.
Yeah I am going to try and get both the Ni-mh and Li-on from Amazon and check if they work. if I look at only the 300 mah Ni-mh battery then I can buy 10 batteries in the same cost as the Harley part.

Your post made me curious as to the differences between Ni-mh and Li-on batteries...
Here are a couple quotes from a comparison on the two types that I found on the Batteries Plus web site, that may help with your decision..
Which is Better, NiMH or Lithium Ion?
While one isn't technically "better" than the other, there are a number of significant differences between these two chemistries. On the performance scale, Li-ion batteries outperform NiMH in most categories. They have a longer overall life cycle of five years, compared to the NiMH life cycle of two to five years. Li-ion batteries also charge much faster, perform better in extreme temperatures and hold their charge for much longer than NiMH batteries.
NiMH options, on the other hand, are much lower in cost than Li-ion batteries. They need very little maintenance, are more environmentally friendly and are free from the transportation regulations that Li-ion batteries must follow when being shipped.
Do NiMH or Lithium Ion Batteries Need a Special Charger?
Both NiMH and Li-ion batteries have different charging needs. Li-ion batteries use chargers equipped with a safety feature that monitors the charging process and cuts the power if a problem arises. NiMH batteries are much harder to charge than Li-ion batteries because they don't have a "float charge" voltage like lithium-ion chemistry and must be charged using a constant current. They are also incredibly vulnerable to damage if overcharged. Because of this, there's no one charging solution for a NiMH battery, but a number of charging techniques that are used to charge a NiMH battery safely. Unlike Li-ion options, NiMH batteries require supervision during the charging process.
When selecting any charger, you should always check to make sure that it's approved for use with your battery's chemistry and voltage. Otherwise, you run the risk of damaging your battery and shortening its lifespan.
