Hey all, would like to hear some thoughts on after market cam for the 104 Heritage, 2014 model. My riding style is very casual in that I need a cam most effectat the low end. I operate between 2000 and 3000 RPM 95 % of the time. I don't believe any Harley I have even owned has see more than 3500 rev during it's life.
I have given thought to 255s but not net really seeing that number associated with the 103 counter balanced motor anywhere.
Also, since I use Harley's Screem'n Eagle Super TUner would like a base map recommendation for V&H Big shots Staggered and Stage one. I am assuming since it is clear that I am by no means a performance freak, I just need the low end kick mostly for passing and a better feel. I would imagine the MAP recommendation would be based on the cam selection but you get my drift.
Hell I am sorry for the lack of replies.. just goes to show you Most member care more about a good looking bike than a good running bike in here... Not a Slam,,, its just that it is what it is..
Now... back in 07 when I bought our Heritage,, I thought it Might be my last Bike....--- now that I am 65 and going on 8 yrs having our Heritage, with 52K on our Heritage I think I was right with my cam choice...
NOw.....If you listen to this old man for a min,, you might learn something...
back in 08 I knew I wanted something better than the EPA cams that Chocked the chit out of the TC engine that the MoCo was forced to put in the (then) NEW (then) 96''er...So Here's what I did..
I looked and studied cams for 2 months... I wanted something that was not necessarily the BEST HP/TQ cams that their was,,, But some cams that gave Good Performance while being Easy on the Engine so it'd last me a Loooong time..
My final conclusion was Andrew's 26's... Again they won't beat some of the other's... but they gave me a 15%-25% increase all the way across the Dyno Sheet over the Stock cams....
Mostly the difference was in the 2000 - 3000 rpms, Where I and most other ride 90% of the time. and they would hang in longer (Higher rpm's) than the stockers.....
Again are they the Best... """NO"" but they are easy on your engine and the """WILL"" put a smile on you face every time you get on it...
Now.... here's the mix..... """Iffin""" I got another new bike with the 103.... I'd look at the Woods 222 {{if I/you are only doing a STG1 and cams with a good tuner and dyno}}}....It will cost you more $$$$$... but..... I might be more likely to indulge in putting one in.. over any other cam.... Remember it WILL cost a little More $$$$ But it will also be easy on your engine while giving you another 10% more HP and TQ over the 26's while being easy on your motor while giving you Great low end TQ....
So--- do yourself a favor and do some Google Searches and see for yourself.......
Crane 300-2 SE 204 Andrews 48. The biggest problem with newer softails is the gearing, way too high. Evo industries 49 tooth clutch basket would make your bike come alive even with the mildest cam.
Andrews 48 seems to be a good all around work horse for both 96" and 103" if you are just looking for bolt in usable power cam....I have 26 in mine and want to go to 48 when I do some refreshing around 100000 mikes next year.
I am thinking of a cam, for my 103, as well and curious about how much does something like that cost at a hd dealer. I dont have an indy around here and pretty much stuck with the dealer. I would like to know what some others have paid so I will know if the dealer is shooting me strait when I get a quote from him. I already have the pro tuner but it aint right due to all the backfiring I get upon decel. Still not to sure what to do about that? Just a ballpark $$$ from some of you cam guys would be greatly appreciated.

Have you done this? Thinking about it over the winter.
