i think the best thing is to find the bars which feel right, i had 16's RS apes on fatboy lo and i found them really uncomfortable, they were narrow and i had to turn my wrists in.
they were about 26" wide.
im now on drag specialties 20" apes which have are 38" wide, they are way more comfortable, have been riding with them for the past 5 months and had no problems.
its also down to the angle of the bars and design. i find the stock fatboy handle bars too uncomfortable, best thing is to mock up a pair of bars from the info they give you on the sites, like height, pull back, center spacing and overall width, and from that find out which is more comfortable. thats what i did and it workout out great for me
Is this seriously a real question??
If you do a batwing, you shoulda gotten a street glide. On a Fatboy, just put on a detachable windshield and be done with it. Apes shouldn't even be a consideration, if you you don't like getting blown around. They will turn you into a human parachute...
Too bad...apes on fatties are the ****.
During the summer I add a Windvest tombstone shield , it's small and fits inside of my ape's and keeps the wind off my chest and my arms are not tired. After a long trip ! As 550 miles to reno in a day, I need arm strength for the slots. LOL
Drag bars with 6" pullback, and detachable windshield. With Sundowner seat, and at 5' 8", I sit low enough without issues with wind with windshield off.

I choose for the detachable ( takes only 1 min to put it on, or take it off ) batwing mounted $ 206 incl shipping
tomorrow i will mount the radio and speakers
Just stumbled across the thread and was going to suggest a tool bag or some type of roll bag mounted on top of the riser caps will greatly reduce the wind pressure on your chest but a BW will do a much better job.
I've got Burly Beach bars on mine at the moment with a quick release Deadcentercycles batwing , but I'm swapping to apes , I know they wont fit to well with the Batwing, but I've found a set of riser extenders that move the mounting point of the bars back a couple of inches, so that I can still fit the Batwing , I can post a link if your interested
