Planning to do stage 1 upgrade during winter... (sucks) looking for input on going with slip on exhaust or full system. I plan to leave pipes routed as they are. Looking for a good sound I like Rinehart and Vance n Hines. Costs vs gain is a factor. Any suggestions on air cleaner brands to choose? It will be tuned as well (my brother has own shop). Also any ideas for getting my reach from bars without changing them out? Lastly, looking for quality crash bar. Thanks
First post. I bought my'14 heritage softail Classic 3 months ago. Skies the limit. Budget, looks, personal preference all factor in. I've researched and read until my retinas bled. Do you want all genuine hd parts on your bike? I went with the hd nastalgic engine guard, slipstream mirrors down to the boards. Bike is coming along nicely I might add. And just ordered V&H big shot staggered exhaust, FP3, and quiet baffles, and hd extreme ventilator AC to complete stage one. So many ways to go man.
Running V&H Bigshots on my 2010 Heritage. Went with the V02 Naked Intake kit. Nice setup in my opinion. I went with the HD gloss black engine guard and put on some highway pegs (which get a ton of use).
You going to get a hundred suggestions so be ready!
I've had a few different breathers over the years ~ And to be honest, on a stage one upgrade I've never felt any difference from one to the other. The nice thing about the Heritage is that the stock exhaust pipe carries the catalytic converter. So as the headers are already where ya want them, any of the Billion different slip-ons will do the trick. As long as you go with a quality pipe. Again, I do not believe you will feel any seat of the pants difference between them {this is just all my opinion}.
I've had real good luck with the Arlen Ness Big suckers and they are usually more affordable than most. Before I decided to go True Dual fishtail on my 13 Heritage, I had the Rush slip-ons. I really liked the sound as it wasn't over the top loud. And again, a usually affordable option.
I suggest these two parts as if you are anything like most of us - The first thing you do is the stage one and then a couple of years later...YA do it again!!
