Default 1993 Heritage Softail

Every since the mid 90's I have always like the '93 Heritage that is affectionately referred to as the Moo Glide. I am going this weekend to look at 2 with relatively low miles and I'm going to try to make one of them mine.

The oldest Harley that I have owned was a 1990 FXR that I purchased used and I never rode it until we finished making a little hot rod bike out of it. My experience with a stock Harley does not go back past 1996.

Guess it took long enough to get here and my question is, is there anything specific with the 1993 EVO engines that would be cause for concern?

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!
Jim

Nothing specific to `93 engines comes to mind, but in late `94 the front belt pulley configuration was upgraded to help solve the problem of the pulley nut coming loose.

If I bought a bike from that era that did not have the new pulley setup, I would put that upgrade very high on my to do list.

I'm no technician, but owned 3 Evos. Never had a problem with any of them. That original FLSTN brought all kinds of $$ back when it was first introduced. I saw one last year, not in the best of shape (actually kind of rough shape), for sale for $9000, so I guess they have held their value pretty well.

Don't know how it turned out, but if you bought the 93, I have a set of Moo Glide seats and passenger backrest for sale.

FWIW, I've put over 200,000 miles on the '94 version of that bike.

I have a 99 evo now an had a 93 fxstc. I didn't have any problems but you have to watch the cam bearing an lifters. I just put the Timkin in my 99 with 18K on it when I changed the cam last fall. The guy that I got the 93 from was a HD tech an he said something like change the cam bearing at 25K to the Timkin an it will last 50K or when changing the cam an change the lifters every 40K. that's pretty low maint in my book. The 90, 91, 92 had some issues with the cases cracking.

Post in the Evo section.

Change the cam bearing to a Torrington.

Toss out the N grind low output cam and put in an Andrews EV13 or EV27 along with a few doodads to enhance that change.
