A rubber mount compared to a rigid mount ( EVO, not a balanced TC ), ask your passenger after 8 hours which bike is more comfortable. That's what the OP wants to know.
Agreed that's why I suggested he save up for a newer heritage with the counterbalanced engine
I ride a 1995 Heritage Softail Classic and at this point I can't imagine riding anything else. I started riding in 1987 or 1988 and this is by far my favorite bike. Is the bike you are looking at carbureted it fuel injected? Early fuel injection systems sometimes have problems but usually are OK. If it is carbureted, buy it. Check the usual things like brakes and steering head as well as the battery and ignition switch. Change the rear shocks to Works Performance light duty shocks for a huge improvement in the ride and handling. Chrome fork lowers will dress it up a lot.
Thanks everyone, but the Ahole, who promised to hold the bike while I contacted the shipper even though I wanted to put money down sold it out from under me. Guess I will keep looking! Anyone got a 2003 softtall springer they want to sell?
I own the bike you missed, and I think you dodged a bullet. It's not that great 2 up. I think you're on the right track looking for a springer. If I was gonna' switch, I'd get a springer. Good luck finding one for $7K tho.
i just picked up my '05 springer for $6k a couple months ago. i'm sure that'd be a harder deal to find in the neatherlands, but out of curiousity i still check chaigslist and some of the other bikes i was looking at are dropping lower and lower to where i could have gotten one of them too.
I agree with holding out until you find a 96" motor with a 6 speed transmission. I've had mine since new and never looked back. Been on a few 2000+ mile trips and it's been a reliable and comfortable touring rig. I've also seen some guys set up their Rockers for the long haul and two-up when needed with touring add-ons, so that's an option as well since you still love the bike. Unfortunately, it may cost you some $$$ and the rear fender might be a problem if it's stock...Heartland made a killing on that model!
