After riding my 5 spd 2001 FatBoy, I would say the benefit would be less buzziness at highway speeds with gas mileage a added benny.

fair enough, after riding a 74 fxe shovel with a 4 speed on the freeway my 5 speed feels good enough..LOL. Personally I feel the only benefit would be gas milage but I never have worried about gas mileage, if I did I would buy a vespa.

Deals are there. Bough a leftover 2013 last june and ended up paying cash with almost $4000 off new sticker. 2015s were on the way and they wanted to get rid of it. 4 miles on the click when I got it.

This 5 speed with 65 tooth rear pulley has torque and cruises @ 75 just fine. No cruise, no ABS, no EFI, no ECM. 2 wheels, 2 cylinders, 1 carb (Mikuni), runs great, and NO PAYMENTS. As stated earlier have less in it than some of you spend on add-ons.

Out on the open road, you're always reaching for that extra gear. The 6 doesn't feel the strain as much, it delivers a bit better gas mileage and is easier on the motor at speed. If all you do is bar hop, then the 5 will work just fine.

My 2000 Heritage likes to cruise between 60 and 65. A sixth gear would be nice. But as others have said, I like the carb and the ease of maintenance. Mine is a keeper and one of the kids will inherit someday-i just hope they have to wait a while.

OK guys, thanks for the input. Now down to two choices one of which has the aluminum profile wheels. I've read a couple of posts where the valve is a real pain to work with. Really like the clean look and the lighter wheel but not sure about the trade off it it's such a real pain to work with. Any additional thoughts?
