This may be opening a can of worms, but I've got to try. Although I've enjoyed my Night Rod I keep checking out the Heritages every time I visit a dealer. So maybe it's time for a trade. There are two dealer 2012s in my general area with low mileage (both around 2,000). Both asking prices are above the NADA average, $15.2k, at $16k and $17k. New 2015 MSRP is a little over $19k - excluding all the crap they add on. So the question; is it worth an additonal $2-3k plus to go with a 2015?
Apples to apples there is about $1500 per model year value difference in the first 3 years. If your paying cash the new makes sense, if financing the lower priced bike makes sense.
When it comes to softails it's not about the latest and greatest so get what feels right at a price you can live with. Personally I would get the newest model available because I keep my bikes for a while.
I bought my 2K Heritage 3 months go with 347 miles on the clock. Paid $8500 for it. Looks better than a new one IMHO. Dosen't have a big motor or FI but it works for me!

The choice is yours, but you're not going to find any bargains at the dealer. If you want a 'dealer' bike start negotiating...they're probably not selling a lot of used bikes this time of year.
I assume you're using a dealer so you can trade your bike...so see what each dealer is offering before you make a decision.
I'd keep looking around as those 2012 prices seem high.
This time last year I was quoted $17K out the door for a brand new 2013 Heritage.
Taking all the advice to heart. Expanding my dealer search since the trade is part of the deal and there isn't a lot of private party demand for an older VRod. When looking around, how far back in model years should I look? Was there any particular year where there was a noticeable change?
