Default 01 heritage softail backfiring

I have an 01 heritage softail C. It starts up great, idles a little rough, but the main thing is it backfires when put in gear. Haven't taken it over 3rd. Drained gas and replaced it, did oil change, and changed spark plugs. No change. Any suggestions?

Default Intake

Intake leak perhaps.Run the machine at idle and spray the intake area with WD40.If the engine speeds up you have a leak.

If your bike is EFI my guess would be you have a hole in the fuel line inside the tank. My 02 Fatboy was doing the same as yours. Replace the check valve and filter as long as your in there. JMO

That can cause the miss,, but only when the fuel level gets below the hole.

if the tanks full there should not be any missing.. I got my hole in the gas line 3yrs ago... at age 5 yrs on the bike and 33K miles. She ran perfect till around 90 miles after filling up.. then she'd start missing,, fill up again and she'd be perfect again for another 90 or so miles.

I was 500 miles from home when she did that and it took me 3 dealers to find one who had the parts to fix...

I purchased it in 05. It's been sitting the last couple months in the garage. Yes it's fuel injected and I've done no mods to the bike.
