Greetings!, I have a 2003 Harley Heritage Classic, I also have a Samsung Galaxy III Cell Phone, frequently my cell battery is dead when I have taken a long ride . I am looking for a safe way to charge the Cell battery as I ride ( With phone off of course) I went to local Harley Dealer where the Parts guy suggessted a USB cable /Adapter that would connect to my Battery tender cable on my bikes battery. My question is this, is there a danger of overcharging the cell phone Battery if I use this arrangement?? I know I could get the Universal Power supply cable which would also fit my Battery Tender cable then purchase a Car Charger to plug into that etc. etc. The USB Cable direct seems to be a simple solution, I am just worried if that is a "Controlled/regulated method? I looked and it seems I could just put the charging cables in my saddlebag as I ride keeping it and my cellphone safe. Any comments?,Thoughts?
Thanks
Ed
I would go with the USB cable adapter on the tender harness. As long as your charger is putting out the proper amperage you dont have anything to worry about.
I dont see where it would be any different then when its in the house charger or plugged into a laptop to draw power. I think the phone regulates when its fully charged and shuts down. Thats how my galaxy works, but I aint no phone guy.
essentially the same thing, but this one works very nicely. There's reports that say Don't leave it plugged in if you don't have to because it'll drain your bike's battery. I haven't tried, and i'm not going to test it..
but basically i have my battery tender cable run under my seat down in to my swingarm bag, plug this thing in, use my phone's regular microusb cable, and keep the whole thing in the bag. works great. (Galaxy S4)
also, im sure you can tell by both links.. the connection you're looking for is "SAE to USB"
Those "adapters" look like a great solution for bikes without another power source for charging.
After reading up on them a bit, it would seem that they step the voltage down to 5v and about 2 amps. Standard for USB connections.
Your phone should control the over-charge situation. Most newer phones do.
I picked up a battery tender cable to USB from my HD dealer. They had some aftermarket ones that were great quality. No issues so far, cell charges good and trickle charges my tablet. Both the tender cable and the USB adapter are fused.
For those that want a cig adapter plugin, HD makes one that mounts in the saddle bag and plugs into the tender cable.
