Default EVO softail FLSTC Raked Cups pics inside

So I have an FLSTC that I love but keep thinking one day I might want to build a second bike - sportster hardtail short chop, very inspired by my dreambikes from zero engineering.

I came to the conclusion that before I fork out money and time for another bike maybe I should mod the one I have a bit to see what it might be like (to have a small rake and firm suspension and horrible riding position).
This was a hard decision because my 97 heritage was completely stock, after doing the raked cups I am still undecided if it was the right thing to do, but oh well, it can always be put back the way it was.

Here is the bike before I started.

Peeling off the front end and trying not to scratch anything.
This is the first time I have ever worked on a bike. Would have been easier if I had cut the front fender headlamp wire.

Sliding out fork tubes (forgive me if my lingo isn't correct)

Front end off. Removing the tins and headlamp was a PITA so far.

I had read that removing the steering stem from the lower yoke was difficult and boy were they right. I removed the lower circlip and read that I needed to pull the lower yoke down/push the 1" of steering stem up out of the yoke.
So I tried two presses with no luck, then decided to use a length of pipe in a vice.

This still didn't work so I used a punch and then a puller to pull the lower bearing off the stem.

Put it in the vice the other way and pushed the lower yoke UP.
Went really easy.

New and old stem

Press new one in.

New bearing

cut out old race

put in raked cups, needed a big assortment of washers, and some rod.

put in new race using same method

all together

tins arn't long enough

headlight doesn't fit

made a little bracket for the headlight

made a little bracket for the side of the tin. still need to get some better fitting hardware.
