I bought this so I didn't have to fuss with the 3M Clear Shield.

Some guys are handy and make their own but I did not want to spend the time fabricating things. It mounts the bag away from the swing-arm bracket a little bit so the bag won't scuff up you paint or wear out the leather tie-down straps of the solo bag over time.

Just my opinion, but even hard mounting the bag I would still use some protective tape on your swingarm. I often have little rocks that get flipped up and stuck between the bag mount and the swingarm.

Just apply the 3m film like it is tape. Wrap it around the area where your bag staps will make contact. The hard mount kits are great if you plan on using the bag all the time. I prefer to be able to quickly remove mine if I want to throw the saddle bags on.

Default Gorilla clear repair Tape

I just picked this up at the hardware Store, I have not opened that package yet.

Has anyone here tried this stuff? Price is right.

I agree with UT, small rocks/ dirt can damage the swing arm with hard mount or straps.

As someone else posted, vids on the net show you how.
For a local dealer who sells the 3m stuff, check their site and use the dealer locator. They sold me a huge leftover piece for 15 bucks.
For my swingarm bag, I put a bunch of sacrificial zip ties on the swingarm pulled tight so that the bag rides on them, not the paint.
The 3m stuff should work also. I use it between my seat and fender with a couple extra inches stuck out to keep my jacket from scratching my fender.
