Default Need help with seat fastner.

Trying to help coworker with seat fastner. Looks like a large screw with a slot for a coin, I say coin because the ends of the slot are radiused. Screw undoes very easily when the threads end the screw does not come out of rest of the fastner. The threads that you can see are much smaller than the seat fastner. Ther is also a small coiled spring between the thumb screw and the part of the fastner that is holding the seat tab securely to the fender. Any idea how this security type fastner might work.
The part securing seat tab to fender does not release when screw is undone.
Thanks Russ
Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure about anyone else, but it is very hard to understand your question. Maybe you could post a couple pictures of what you are talking about.

at first it kinda sounded like the mounting screw might have had a heli-coil repair, and now has backed out.... but after seeing the photo - I don't have a clue.

Does the screw compress when a downward force is applied? What happens if you try and push down and turn the screw (like a child-proof cap)?

It sounds like it is just hung-up on the fender nut. Hold the bracket with one hand so it does not scratch the fender when it comes loose and with the other hand, gently bang on either side of the seat. Should come free.

I had a old badlander seat with a nut like that. the nut doesn't come out of the seat bracket. just back it out all the way and take the palm of your hand gently hit the seat on the side,it should break loose. probably just some rust between the bracket and the fender.

Yep, sounds like the seat is just stuck to the fender. The spring is meant to keep pressure on the threads to keep it from backing out during vibration.

Thanks All
Seat did pop off, but was stuck on the anchor for some reason.
Would never have pulled as hard as I did with out the posts.
