Smile 2005 Heritage Question

I am considering a Heritage and I found one with the 95 upgrade and carb along with 2 into one exhaust. It is a private party although he had the work done at a Harley dealer.

I am going to look at it this weekend and I just wanted some thoughts on carb vs EFI. This is a bike I will cruise around town with and occasionally go for a 100 or so mile trip with the wife.

Carbs are fine if set up properly and are cheap to tune/modify. EFI is mighty convenient because you can start up and go. It takes any guess work out of it.

Nothing wrong with a carb bike at all! My Dad's 2000 Heritage has a 95" big bore along with cams, a Baker 6 speed and a Mikuni 42mm carb. The thing is more reliable than my FI bike and is a total stump puller. He will never get rid of that bike and absolutely loves the fact that it is carbureted!

Plus's and minus's... Carbs are great and as mentioned allow for much easier performance upgrading with no dyno tuning, etc. I have a 2003 Carb'd FatBoy and can honestly say that bike has never done me wrong. Runs great with the stock HD Carb and always has.

The biggest thing with FI to me is the ability to get on and go without even thinking about it. No setting the choke or any of that but once everything is warmed up, they're essentially the same.

If you like the bike, don't let the fact that it's carb'd get in the way. Good luck, ride safe!

My Sporty was carb and I loved it. Since I they had both in that year just wanted to know if anyone had an absolute preference. Someone told me EFI get's better mileage but wouldn't imagine it would be that much better.

It really is a nice looking bike. With the 95 upgrade kit and all the other goodies on it I really would not have to do much to it. Wants 9K for it. 20K miles on it...so it sounds like a decent deal.

Honestly, I'd prefer a carbed bike over EFI. There is little to no difference in gas mileage and it's a much simpler bike to maintain. Also, you can still ride the bike even if the battery is dead..

You can take that last line as if it's from the horses mouth, because it is. My EFI bike let me down in the high plains of Co. between nowhere and hell because the battery puked on me..

Nice lookin' ride! Nice extra equipment too! I know your wife/significant other will appreciate that wider rear seat. I had to buy one. The standard one was described as "Akin to sittin' on an ax blade..."

I just bought an '06 a few weeks ago. EFI bike. I would have preferred a carb'd bike too. Simpler. I gotta buy a dang windows based laptop now just to tune the dang thing. If it were carb'd, a selection of jets and other small parts and you're good to go.

As far as fuel mileage, it's all about how it is set up and how you ride.
My first recorded MPG interval on mine was 37mpg. Not great, but not horrible either. I think it should be better

So, just go get it!
