Andrews 37 is a good cam. Forget the gear drives. SE cam plate and hybrid set up is better. However if it was me, I'd call hillside, fuel moto, GMR performance and talk to them. I'd also go with one of their kits. Proven performance & cheaper.

Guessing that different size cams, how ever minute, will change the overall volume in the cylinder head space.
Is this the reason for your question?
Pretty much. it's important to match all the pieces up so they work well together.

I am not an expert by any means so I can't exactly get into all the technical aspects.

I got my 98" kit through hillside as some others have So I agree with giving them a call and having them set you up with a proven package.

It can get very technical and there are many contributing factors to compression.
Basically though, cams have certain compression ratios where they like to work well. I assumed the OP was just doing the big bore kit with no head work since he made no mention of it. If that's the case, the stock heads will only handle so much lift so that limits his cam selection.
He will next need to determine his riding style and the rpm range he rides in.
The easiest way to determine where the cam "comes on" is by looking at the intake closing time. Cams with early intake closing times (40° and lower) will be better for low end torque and cams with a later intake closing time will be best in the upper rpm ranges.
Usually those cams like high compression (10.5:1 and up) to see their potential though, so without headwork it would just be a dog.

Once again, I am no expert but have talked to a few engine builders and this is the basics that I got out of it.

Definitely talk to someone like Scott at Hillside or Kirby (prodrag1320). They know their stuff and will be able to steer you in the right direction.

Now just trying to decide the cams. I was set to go with the 510 from S&S, but have been reading a lot about Woods and Andrews cams.

The type of riding I do is just general cruising on the highway and back roads, don't ride much in cities. Never ride 2 up.

Thanks in advance.

I'm doing my 2006 softail standard tc88 fxsti with S&S 585 easy start cams with stock cylinders bored out to 98" with valve work to the heads. Id like to know if anyone else has ran this configuration.

I put the S&S 98 with their 79cc heads and 583 EZ start cams. I did not have the bike Dyno'd, however, S&S tell's me I should have over 100/100. All I know is it feels great and with the EZ Start cams it does just that. BTW .. I did the Timken bearing mod for piece of mind.

I've got the Suburban Speed 98" on mine, 103hp 107 lb ft. 585g cams so it pulls hard from 3k to redline. Heads are fully ported, bigger valves, etc. Talk to a builder about what you plan on doing with the bike. We use Powervision for dyno tuning, a custom map for your bike is the only way to go. Might as well open up the heads and upgrade to higher lift capable springs while you're at it. 583s are supposed to be a good softail cam.
