I know this thread is OLD lol, but wondering which cams you ended up going with? I'm bout to put S&S 98" on my 03 Train and thinking of going with S&S 583 Easy Start.
You cannot go with more than a .510" lift cam with the stock valve springs in your heads...
I put the S&S 98 with their 79cc heads and 583 EZ start cams. I did not have the bike Dyno'd, however, S&S tell's me I should have over 100/100. All I know is it feels great and with the EZ Start cams it does just that. BTW .. I did the Timken bearing mod for piece of mind.
That's why I didn't gp with the 583's as they need less compression cause the intake closes at 18* which is early. and the S&S 98" come with CP 10cc pistons which they say are 10.75:1 ( static ). I ended up going with Feuling 543's and I still need to get my comp down as my Corrected comp is 9.7:1ish so I'll either have to go with a 4* retard gear or open the ports in my heads to about 89-90cc so I'll be about 9.3-9.4:1. With 79cc heads that's way too much comp for that cam, need a cam with Intake closing later, around 46 or so

I'm doing my 2006 softail standard tc88 fxsti with S&S 585 easy start cams with stock cylinders bored out to 98" with valve work to the heads. Id like to know if anyone else has ran this configuration.
The 585's come on a little later in the rpm range, 3K or so.

How do you have 9.8:1 comp with S&S 98" & 583 cams? Below is just a guesstimate but with their 98" which come with 10cc pistons and then the 79cc heads, I don't see how that's possible. That cam closes at 18* and mine closes at 43* and I need to go to at least 89cc heads for lower comp. Also, when I spoke to S&S they told me I couldn't use the 583's with the 98" kit, crazy!
Also, the Corrected comp would be at 10.99:1 and CCP at 238.6 @ sea level. That Corrected comp isn't poss to run on pump gas. I must be missing something, obviously lol

Reason: and that's with .045 HG

You're right. No way could you have the 79cc heads run with that combo. Well i guess you could, but that would be the ping monster of death and it would kill your starter and battery in no time.

Hell yeah, I purchased the 98" kit and was gonna use Reaper 543's but the comp was too high and I would either have to mill the pistons dwn to about 5-6cc, go to about 89cc in heads or use stock hg with 4* retard key to make the Intake close later. I spoke with tech guy at Feuling and he said he would send me the 574's in exchange for the 543's at no charge so think I'm gonna go that route.
I'm curious as to what the Corrected comp is and the CCP?

The 574's are good cams, they come on hard in the mid range and pull until you let off the throttle. My HD Tech has them in his '09 FLHR, we are getting ready to do a 107" build using stock cylinders and CP flat tops, Hillside Stage III heads, a HPI 55/58 TB, S&S Stealth Intake and Bassani Road Rage 2-1 Exhaust. I think you will like the 574's...

That build sounds bada**. I was told that with the exhaust opening at 61* it would be a dog off the line, is that true in your experience?
