Still doing homeworks to find an alternative way to relocate SS switches on handlebar, possibly using the housings. Trying now to analyze the Touring housings and, unfortunately, the one that has the perfect look (p.n. 71500185) won't fit. Talking about the housings with 4 holes (2 per side) under the turn signal switches. These would have been perfect to allocate four momentary buttons but, as I said, won't fit Softail electric units.
So I started wondering if the housings for Touring older models would fit Softail electric units. If these fit, the part below the turn signals (guess originally should have the radio switches) could be used to fit two momentary switches (lever type or similar) and have a clean look and easy access for SS adjustments while riding.
These housings are HD part number 70223-96B and theoretically fitting is given for '96-'13 FLHT/C, '06-'13 FLHX/XX,FLTRX without cruise control.
Need your help understanding if this mod can be done, guys.
Great idea. I didn't even think of that when I just finished mine. Less work for sure. But I wish I could answer your question about the touring housings. I f you could get yourself the wiring diagram for the touring housing on what connects to what and for which function I think it would work. You might have to do some custom wiring of the switches to make it work. If you get it to work let us know. That is a great idea and a clean pro. look...I wish I could of helped you more, sorry...Good Luck

Thanks mate! The idea is fine but difficult to check fitting. I'm trying to understand if that housings might fit Softail controls, avoiding to change the hand control unit behind the housing, otherwise I'm afraid it wouldn't be cost effectiveness and worth doing. There are many things to check unless having some spare housings and check fitting "on the field". Diameter, button measures, throttle, etc...is not that easy, at least to me. I managed to find some schemes and measures of the stock housings and the newer Touring housings and from those I can say won't fit. Unfortunately didn't manage to find same schemes for the housings used on older models I'm talking about.
Anyway you did a great job on your bike! I also considered the additional HD housing but it has three slots and even though I saw some guys here using it, I'm not fully satisfied of the look...acceptable but not perfect.
Also found some aftermarket additional momentary switch housings (Pingel, JPCycles, etc.) but none suits what I have on my mind.
I guess it's a type of mod that can be interesting for many people here and hope someone more skilled than me will chime in this thread.
Surfing the net to look for some momentary switches and housing to have a clean relocation on handlebars of Shotgun Shock switches I found these...
They're optional with Legend Suspensions and asking if they might work and be adapted for Shotgun. Anyway hope J.D. will soon create his own ones but in the meanwhile...
What do you think guys? Might these work? They'd look pretty nice and available in chrome and black, cost about $160/170 each...various types...
I looked at them also but to use with the shotgun shock, you will need 2 of those switches and to me that is a little pricey. The shotgun shock has 4 functions. If those buttons on those switches do only 1 function each. You will definitely need 2 of those. Good Luck...
I do not see why they would not. Wiring seems simple enough. Red being power and the other 2 colored wires would be for 2 functions that you choose out of the 4 functions. Same as the other side for the other 2 remaining functions of your choice. When you disassemble the shotgun switches you will see the different colored wires and to what function each color wire does. I just marked the wires before I cut them and wired them to my new switches. It will look awesome on your bike. Good Luck my friend...

Many Thanks! Really happy there's should be no issues in using these housings. As I said before I'm not much in DIY and even if will be an expensive mod I guess I'll go with it. Now just trying to understand which one of the two housings available in chrome will fit my Softail Breakout.
I guess what they call "Handlebar Control, Chrome Deutsch" should fit the Breakout 1 1/4 handlebar, right? It says it fits both 1 and 1 1/4 handlebars... Also the "Pre-Aero" model might fit but on "Deutsch" there's the Softail fitting written, don't know if there's any difference between the two kits apart for wires connectors, price is the same... http://www.legendsuspensions.com/products
Not a problem at all my friend. Anyway I can help I will. I looked at the 2 parts you are talking about. Your right, no difference at all except the end wire fittings. More than likely you will be cutting the wire fittings off anyway. By splicing the wires from your new chrome housings to the shotgun wiring and you should be good to go. Let me know how you make out my friend...
