Another ABS thread..looking for closure
I've searched the forums and read all the flashing ABS light threads, and the wider 'net threads.
I havent found anything that is consistent though.
I changed my front wheel and now have ABS light flashing and then staying on.
ive checked the bearing for cleanliness, installation etc, and it all seems fine. correct way, etc.
in one thread someone said to pull the main fuse and let the computer reset- does anyone know if this works?
another thread said to get the SE tuner and because it flashes the ECU, it can also "re-set" any faults.
im confident that ive eliminated all but a faulty bearing and/or a faulty ABS sensor unit.
i need to replace my Vance and Hines FuelPak anyway because it is crap.
Its a royal pain in the butt to take my bike to the harley dealer for a computer reset and $40..so im trying to avoid that if possible.
Any ideas?
thanks.
went to the HD dealer who is a licensed HD servicer. They reckon that its the speed difference in the wheel.
they tell me there is no fix for it. i checked with another of their master techs and he said that they can stop the light, but then it renders the ABS to be dangerous as it wont lock when it should because they fool the ECU with a different speed ratio.
im just not digging this. HD make loads of money on after market mods, and built their rep on alot of that. and loads of wheels come with ABS encoded bearings. Why?..if they render the ABS either non functional or dangerous?
i ddont get that reasoning anyway, as the ABS should work on each wheel- not as a function of both wheel's rpm. it shouldnt matter what diameter it is.
i smell confusion. and considering i had no problem when i had a 21" front and an 18" rear, it just doesnt add up.
thanks mate.
tim
PS it keeps amazing me how these dealers and servicers have such poor cause and effect skills..and they seem to be comfortable with "it just doesnt work for some reason".. rather than wanting to know why.
