Hello, I've got a 2003 Deuce...it is the FI 88 and seems to have an excessively high idle. Any tips to reduce the rpm to where the thing may just sound like a Harley? I took the air cleaner off and found what was supposed to be an adjustment screw up against the throttle cam but it is pressed into the housing and obviously engineered to not be adjustable...what gives? Anyone know what I don't? Thanks

Fuel injected idle is controlled by the computer. Plug in a tuner and lower it to your hearts content. Just don't blow up the motor. It should be at 1k RPM stock.
Well that's a great looking Deuce! Thanks for the quick reply..but what do you mean, blow up the motor? Is that a risk with a reduce idle? And, do most shops have this specific tuner available?

Any HD shop should have something that will work or else I wouldn't bother going there.
It's been a big debate about whether or not a lower idle will harm the motor. Supposedly a decreased idle will cause decreased oil flow and increased heat during idle. Decreased oil flow can lead to damage, but is the decrease at idle enough to do anything if you're only idling at say 900 or 950 instead of 1000? I personally wouldn't go to something like 600 RPM.
Cams are a better way to get the sound. I put a set of SE something or other (205's maybe?) in mine when I did the cylinder upgrade and with the increased top end, it gave it that loping sound.
I appreciate the explanation...makes sense too...lube is lube...but I do want the potato lope sound...hell, that's one of the main reasons we buy these things. Gone are the days of self adjustments...well, ride safely my friend and thanks again for sharing your knowledge...nickatnight
