I'm seriously considering adding an H-D classic like a Road Glide to the garage, with the intention of keeping it as close to stock as possible.
IOW buy it and leave it alone.
I could see maybe better pipes or slip-ons for sound and some LED turns & brake lights but that would be about it.
Well the way "Harley Desinged it" for all 99-06 Twinkies is to grenade themselves with the shitty cam chain tensioners . Some of the changes are necessary, and why not improve performance with some upgrades whilst fixing the MoCo poor design?
Not one person in here would believe me if I said what I had in MY bike. A large portion of that is labor as there are somethings I cant or wont do. Its a sickness, one I enjoy waking to every morning!
It's like a desease to me. I always tell myself "just a few little tweaks here and there and I'll be done with it". But then one tweak always leads to another and I've changed way more than I intended. But then I'm happy as I look at what I've done and think " you know if I changed this now.....".
Some people just like stuff stock, but for me I can't see dropping any amount of money just to have what everyone else has? The funny thing is I just went to my local Harley and there was a discussion on how much guys spend in there and I laughed they asked what was so funny and I said I'm glad I didn't spend to much in there last year and they laughed and pulled my customer sheet..spent 14,000 + on accessories there last year ummm WTF..I need a rope!! Not to mention what I spent at HogPro last year. And to think I'm getting bored of my current bike here we go again!! I'm thinking of starting a rehab for us guys that just don't like it stock.

But if you did that you did not "Leave it alone", just bustin' your chops a little...
This is a funny topic and one I think about daily when I look at my bike. I just spend about 3 grand on my recent updates and my bike still looks like everyone else's lol. Now I'm fighting the urge for air suspension & wheels/rotors/pulley. Sometimes I think I just need to stop but hey...only live once and there are way worse things or habits you could be spending your money on.
F' it... I'm just gonna ride it and love it, the way Harley designed it.
OK... I'm done now. Thanks for listening, Lol.
First off, I'd say this thread belongs in the BS section of the Forums...
Second...I've never understood what compels folks to make little rants like this. They always come across as pretentious and condescending. I think it's especially odd to go out of your way to do so given that you pretty much represent the minority. Also, the whole tone of "Just F'ing enjoy your Harley the way they designed it!" is a rather obtrusive statement and one that begs a response along the lines of "F**K YOU! I'll do to my Harley whatever the F**K I want and you do (or DON'T do) whatever the F**K you want to yours!"
If you are really expecting an answer as to "WHY" then be prepared to do a lot of reading because the answers out there are probably as varied and as many as there are riders.
I'm just saying that maybe you could approach the topic differently if you're simply looking to start a conversation on customizing Harleys. Otherwise I would suggest that instead of voicing your thought on the internet, ride on over to your local rider hang out and make the same remarks in the same tone that you did here and then feel free to let us know how that goes for you.
Stock would bore me to death and I went another direction I went for engine and tranny work, several times., over cosmetics. Now iv put 1 dollar or two out since on a few things cosmetically, its coming together.
