Default Sometimes I want to say .....

Just F'ing enjoy your Harley the way they designed it!

OK, Yes change a few little things here or there, but sometimes we seem to get a bit out of control (myself included).

When I first saw my Breakout I loved everything about it. The more I read on this forum, the less I am satisfied with it.

Yeah, yeah, I know "make it your own" ... fine... but with a brand new designed Breakout?

Change the:

Engine
tires
suspension
tank lift
console
pedals
shifters
signals
axle covers
lighting
ignition coil
horn
instrumentation
fenders
wheels
forks
etc... etc... etc...

F' it... I'm just gonna ride it and love it, the way Harley designed it.

OK... I'm done now. Thanks for listening, Lol.

There is something to be said for that. The older I get the less I change things. I have had highly modified bikes in the past. And after it was all said and done I did not think the returns were worth the expense. My last two bikes have had Stage 1 performance upgrades and more comfortable seats. That's about all it takes for me to be happy. But it depends on what you want.

I'm a hot rodder at heart, nothing stays stock. Minor or major, something is gonna change.

Ya gota do a stage 1 with either slipons or full pipes. The engine begs for it. The government is holding the engine hostage and ya gota let it out. That's my rant, sorry.

Asked myself the same question more than once, I fell immediately in love with Breakout but...after a while I realized that there were many details that could have been improved. Could you say the stock console is nice? Nope, probably is the ugliest one ever installed on a Harley. Grips and pegs? Standard rubber installed on the vast majority of HD models, they might fit a Kymco, not an Harley. Stage I? A must for performance and engine longevity as on all Harley models. Tach? If you wish to have more info (e.g. fuel level) that's a smart upgrade... Headlight? Need LED if you wish to see something at night...etc...
There are some basic mods common to nearly all Harley models plus some personal ones to have the bike fitting you (extended fwd controls, reach improvements, etc...)
Third type of mod is style. Chrome, PC, Apes, Wheels, etc...
While the first two types are in some way related to comfort and, sometimes, safety, third type is an option, a choice...simply not essential but as Oscar Wilde said "the only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it"
And there are so many temptations outside there...

Make you bike yours I say. Why be the same as everyone else. After all I am the one who is paying for it.

Dude, if you don't get sucked into Harley's "make it you own" marketing scheme, how are they going to get the rest of that money out of your bank account?

$14 oil, $30 t-shirts, Essential items like those plastic "poker chips" they all sell. They stay up late figuring out ways.

No harm in changing stuff if your going to keep it a good while, gets me when people spend a small fortune on altering a bike then sell it after a year or two, and I've seen many of them in dealers show rooms.
