She rides like a dream! Took it to the coast from Hattiesburg, MS then decided to hit Mobile, AL via hwy 90. 85mph feels like an air massage! Not hard to shift today and I was feeling good, so I think my disease was just making it harder for me. Gotta pull the windshield and check the tree alignment. I think it just needs a nudge to the left. Never owned a bike this big or even close to it.
As far as pulling, it could be your rear wheel alignment or a few other things.bring it back to the seller and have him test ride it. If he says it is good, find another shop to check it. As far as shifting, replace the shift rod with one that has heim joints, adjust clutch and make sure the primary fluid is fresh and at the proper level.if you aren't sure what is in the tranny, replace it with a good 75-140 (or 75-110) synthetic gear oil. Enjoy your new scoot.
I think the chunky shifting is just the nature of the beast. Mine is an '06, and compared to my Sportster and my Triumph, the shift happens with a pretty good thunk. Seems to be less chunky once its hot.
On your bar alignment, perhaps one of the bushing is worn. Maybe they could be loosened up, shifted around a bit then tightened back up straight.
Congrats on the purchase. Kinda funny, I just picked up my 07 heritage softail classic Tuesday. I experienced the same clunky shifting but, I'd been expecting it. I researched the bike over the weekend waiting to pick it up. I had been riding a kawasaki vulcan nomad. The heritage is such a contrast in differences. Just the 2 days I've been able to ride let's me know I made the right choice. I'm glad your shifting got easier. Be safe and enjoy your new ride.
Chunky River Harley says to check in parking lot or interstate hwy for tracking. The other roads are angled harder on the grade. It's fine. The service guy let me see his new harley and he still doesn't get the forks being tweaked so it looks to be to the right. His is the same as mine on that. He said he thinks it's just to drive us crazy when we look down while driving. Took measurements and it doesn't show what we see. Got the heel shifter put on and a helmet lock last night. Service guy said see the prices on the board for oil changes and service? Wow! Took me out to my bike and said see this this this this and that's it. Save the money and do it yourself. Check your nuts and bolts every week. Only bring it in if you really aren't sure about a problem. He says the biggest issues are not checking the stuff when needed. Put 200 miles on it yesterday and still can't get over how smooth it is. Next finish replacing these bulbs with LED's and align the passing lights. Oh and the passenger pegs to flatboards for the wife. Thanks for the help and input.
Never felt like ours shifted Hard, Except one time when I tried some 85-140 Gear lube in the tranny, it was hard to shift till the oils warmed up.
I dropped that Heavy Gear lube out after about 4-5 ride and went back to a good 20-50 Syn oil.. I like Mobil 1 V-twin and all was fine again, but there several other good syn oils to choose from..
Another thing might help is to make sure the clutch is adjusted correctly..
also make sure all your shifting Linkage is oiled.. sometimes that can cause hard and sticky shifting.
