Default Security system problem

My 2008 Crossbones has developed a very unusual problem. The security fob did not disarm the system so I replaced the battery. The fob still won't disarm the system, but I can enter the code and it works fine. The other fob does the same thing. Has anybody experienced this problem?

Have you replaced the battery on the alarm itself?

The alarm on the bike? I didn't know there was a separate power source for it, but when I think about it it makes sense. I'm also pondering that perhaps the replacement battery I bought was flat. I know it's unlikely but a dealer is about 100 miles away so I'm trying to fix it myself.

Try reprograming the FOB.

The TSSM (alarm) has a rechargeable 9v battery in it. Like all batteries, they need replacing after x years. It costs very little so even if that wasn't the root cause, it doesn't hurt to have done.

Default Siren battery

Based on my very recent experience, I found out that the siren (alarm) has nothing to do with the operation of the fob. How do I know this? Well, last week I took out the 9 volt battery on the siren, and I was still able to set the alarm with the fob. I also disconnected the siren altogether, and I was still able to set the alarm with the fob. I was also having intermittent problems setting the alarm with the fob, so instead of clicking it twice, I just pressed it for about two seconds, and it set the alarm. So try skipping the clicking part, and just continue pressing the button until the alarm sets, usually no more than 2 or 3 seconds.

That can only be done by the dealership.

I'm guessing that the OP has the Hands Free Security Module (HFSM) and it's FOB's do not have buttons.

You are correct that the HFSM or TSSM work independantly with or without the Smart Siren, so the condition of the sirens 9v battery will not prevent the security system from arming/disarming.

I had a similar problem with my 07 Softtail. I eventually disconnected the battery and let it set for an hour or so – this basically rebooted the computer when I reconnected it and that solved my problems.
No amount of messing with the FOB even with a new battery worked for me.
