So I first saw the bike Sunday evening, and with limited daylight remaining, I didn't get much of a chance to give the bike a thorough investigation. I made sure nothing was falling off, ran it up the road for a minute, and returned to make an offer. I picked it up yesterday and got it home with several hours of daylight left. It's in MUCH better condition than I anticipated for a 14 year old bike.
However, the air filter looked like a homeless person lived in it. It hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. It's a K&N from a dealer installed Stage II, so I cleaned and recharged it, but had to clean it twice. It's still not as clean as I'd like, so I'll replace it soon. With all that being said, I'm thinking the carb could use a cleaning and rebuild kit. That'll be a Saturday project if I can get the kit fast enough.
Aside from a dirty air filter, the brakes are a bit lackluster. I'm picky about stopping power, so I'm looking into a new caliper, pads, and brake line.
Nice looking bike. Appears to have been well cared for. As to the exhaust, it looks like a Vance and Hines pipe, but for a more modern bike. Not sure what it could be. Surprised there is not some manufacturing logo on it.
Nice looking bike. Did the previous owner paint the fender struts orange? Say Santo, I like your new paint too. What is it and do you have anymore shots? Sharp!
Did the previous owner paint the fender struts orange?
Yes, somewhere along the way the struts, console, and arid air cleaner cover were painted in an attempt to match the factory paint. I ran a VIN check, and there have been several owners. Close, but not quite there. I'd rather they not be painted, but i don't hate it enough to buy replacements. The air cleaner cover is off now.
