For my height it does give me a bit of lower back support, right above my tailbone, but if you're like under 5'10" you may not even know it's there because un-like the OP's backrest it will not sit you up & help your posture at all. It is by no means a replacement for a full backrest if you need one.

I had this and found it to be way to far forward. On top of that the angle was all wrong. The kury one looks like it would have similar issues. Really surprising that Harley doesn't offer anything.

+1 on this. I had forgotten that - you are absolutely correct. My back only came into contact with like half of the pad.

The Grasshopper back rest is definitely a budget solution, but with a little work it can be adjusted to fit a variety of ways. There is about 2.5" of forward/rearward adjustment, just need to see how far back you want it, then drill a couple of holes and put in a bolt to keep it there. Angle was a little off for me from the factory, but its' design allow for it to be "adjusted" in a padded vice to the angle you want.

Being a budget solution is a plus in that if you can't get it to work, you're not out a bunch of money. And, in my experiences with a bunch of aftermarket stuff for both 2 wheel and 4 wheel hot rods, virtually anything is modifiable. I could write a book on stuff I've bought that supposed to be a direct bolt-on or a perfect replacement part that was....not.

The grasshopper item looks to be very easily modified in a variety of ways just from lookin' at the pictures. I haven't bought one yet, but I will.

I'm using a grasshopper on the SGS and i have used it stock out of the box and it is extremely comfortable. But easy enough to "adjust".

When I had my FB I used a bedroll as a back rest.

Pick up my new Deluxe tomorrow, and will be doing similar on that.
Best back rest I ever had. Depending on the room available I have used a plastic pipe insert in the middle of the roll to firm it up, but I don't think the Deluxe will need it.

Got my Deluxe today. Standard apart from the engine bars front and back.
Think I'll keep it that way for a while, or maybe.....

I've had mixed comments about the bedroll thing, mostly positive, but I don't really care, it works for me. I don't often take a passenger, and if I do I'll use the RK.

So I ordered the backrest and installed it today. I went for a short ride and can't make up my mind about the backrest. I feel like it does push me too far forward. My ride took me on some pretty bumpy roads, which didn't feel good against the backrest. Perhaps a smooth roadway would feel good. I think it will take some getting used to after riding without a backrest. I'll have to go on a longer ride and make up my mind. It sure doesn't enhance the look of the bike at all.

I got one of the knock off pads and it sucked. the materials were really cheap. the cover was slightly lopsided and it pushed me forward. If you want I will sell it cheaper than the fleebay one. Its the one that is in pics I have posted. The lopsided cover can easily be fixed.
