Default Restoring a softail windshield

Hello All;
I did a search before threading. Was cruising the net and saw a softail like mine (apes, 21 etc.) but with the stock seat back on and windshield. I have a badlander seat on now but still have the sissy bar and original seat. I kind of like the look.

My only problem is my windshield. It has become "hazy" with very light scratches. I thought about some 0000 steel wool, but before I mess it up I figure I'd ask. If it can be restored, what's the best way? I thought maybe the headlight restorer concoctions might work as well, but before I mess anything up I wanted to pick the forums brains. Thanks

If it's the Hd shield there's coating on it and in my experience if that's scratched you can't do anything but buy a new shield. I tried to take the coating off and made it worse and ended up buying a new shield.

I like Cleartastic as it's a thick high quality shield and they offer HDforum members a 10% discount.

I've also purchased a $90 replacement shield from Ebay and it was fine too, but it was thinner than the Cleartastic.

Don't use steel wool, you can polish it the same as polishing your paint. If real bad then 1000 wet sand, rubbing compound, then scratch and swirl remover.
I use a buffer but like Joe said the shields have a coating and you can burn through real easy.

As I think of it, I have a few small scratches on my HD shield that I have, and I have some compound for polishing headlights. I'll give it a shot and post up my results in the next day or so.

I'm in the glass business and sell acrylics and polycarbonates and have tried several products. I've had best results with Novus Plastic Polish.
They have a Clean & Polish #1 for regular cleaning.
Polish #2 for light scratches
Polish #3 for heavier scratches.

You can buy it in a kit for around 20 bucks. Last forever. The #1 goes faster has I use it for cleaning.
You could try cleaning the windshield and then use the #3 first and then the #2 and the #1 for daily cleaning.
I carry a small spray bottle of the #1 when on road trips.
Pretty good stuff.
You can get it off line or try a neighborhood glass shop.
Its not a miracle polish so if your shield is gone to far nothings going to make it new again but for 20 bucks you can't loose. Even if doesn't fix that shield you'll have it for future use on your replacement shield to help it last longer.

Another good daily cleaner/polisher is Plexus. Comes in an aerosol.

Word of advice,, if you use a car wash sprayer do not use it on the hard spray on the shield. It can blow the protective coating off. Don't ask me how I know this.
