They are a nice idea and I would love to try a pair, but without externalbolts for the sissy bar they just won't fit my bike. Butthey might be something that would look/work really nice on aNightrain or a Standard setup for solo riding.
I have something similar. They, aren't DOT certified but they clean up the back of the bike and get rid of those giant nasty looking stock ones. These install on over the end of the stock strut pretty cleanly.....they show up nicely at night...during the day they are pretty small so use caution.

Well I found some replacements by Kuryakyn that are not bad looking. So I e-mailed them asking if they wereand according to them,they are in fact DOTapproved.
So if your looking for something different but your state DOT requires turn signals you might want to check these LED lights.
