I posted this thread in the Tech and Mechanical forum, but there was no response, so I'll try again here:
I want to move the handlebars on my Softail "Slim Boy" forward, (away from my body) for more arm room while riding. I thought about cutting an inch or 2 from the end of these black "hollywood" bars.
Question: Can I just rotate the bar risers 180 degrees? This would move the bar about 1 inch forward, since the risers have @ 1/2 inch "pull back".
Has anyone cut an inch or two from the Slim handlebar ends?
I have the service manual, but I can't tell if there is some kind of "clock" or notch to prevent me from trying rotating the risers 180.
Your handlebars are indented for your wires at a certain place and if you cut off an 1" or 2" you are gonna have to reindent your bars for your wires or they will get pinched in your housings when tighten everything back up
+1 on the indention. Learned the hard way with non HD bars. Ended up Dremeling a slot in the switch collars for wires to exit. Not clean, but worked ok.
