Default What A Difference A MAP Makes

My bike already had a Pro Pipe (V&H 2 into 1) and K&N Filtered Screamin' Eagle inlet when I bought it last winter. I was told by the seller that he believed a Stage I flash had been done on it. The bike ran very good, lean, but good.

I put a Power Commander III (USB) on it and quickly found two MAPs for it, one (805-019) with my pipes and intake with a Stage I flash and a second (805-005) to be used if no flash had been done. When I loaded up the MAP I put in it my thinking was that the one designated for use if the ECU had already been flashed would probably be less agressive than the one for the stock ECU; that it would be the milder MAP if you want to think about it that way. So I put it in and have been running it for a few days. The improvement was noticable, particularly in the mid range. There was still some popping immediately below 2000 RPM but that was something I could deal with. I was please with how it was working.

This morning I had the seat off and thought I'd stick the other MAP - the one for a stock ECU - in it just to see if I could notice a difference.. I didn't expect much if any difference to be quite honest about it. My wife and I were going into town anyway and its a nice day so we took the bike; it was about a 50 mile round trip. Wow, what a difference!

The bike is so much smoother, the power improvement is really noticable right in the 2000~3000 range, right where I want it, and the popping on decelleration is almost completely gone. I'm really happy with it. I think I'll give it a hundred miles solo and fasttomorrow and then see how the plugs look. I'm really happy that I decided to try a MAP other than the one that would seem to have been right for the bike. Thought I'd mention it for others that were thinking they might want to try a MAP other than the one indicated for their bike.
